AKOLA DIVISION

Akola is an important Historical, Cultural, Political, Religious, Industrial and Agricultural city in the state of Maharashtra located in the Vidarbha region in central India. Akola (also called Cotton city) is renowned for its cotton production and is the largest cotton producing district in India. The city is also famous for its Pulse or Dal, Oil and Textile mills. It is a rapidly developing and growing Market center.
Many old forts from the historic past can still be seen in Akola District viz.: Narnala Fort, Akot Fort, Akola Fort and Balapur Fort.
Some of the rivers in Akola, with their tributaries are Purna River, Uma River, Katepurna River, Shahanur River, Morna River, Mann River, Aas River, Vaan River etc. The Morna river flows through Akola city. The Purna River forms the part of north boundary of the district, and the top north portion of the district lies within its watershed along with Aas River and Shahnur River. The Vaan River forms the part of northwest boundary of the district after entering from the Amravati district. The Maan River drains the southwestern portion of the district, Morna River drains the midsouth portion of the district, while the southeast is drained by the Katepurna River and Uma River.

Agriculture or Farming is the main occupation of the people in rural parts of the region. Cotton, Soyabean and Jowar (Sorghum) are the predominant crops grown in the district. Other important crops of the region are Wheat, Sunflower, Canola, Peanut, Bajra (Pearl Millet), Harbara (Chick Peas), Toor (Pigeon Peas), Ulad and Mung (Green Gram) etc. Oil and Dal mills are rampant in this region because of the crops taken. Textile mills are also increasing to support the cotton growing industry.

Sant Gajanan Maharaj Samathi Temple

Shegaon, is  famous for the Samadhi of Shri Gajanan Maharaj - a mystic saint as popular  as Saibaba of Shirdi.Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj made his divine appearance on and enlightened millions. He attained samadhi on Bhadrapad Shukla Panchmi 08-09-1910. The Samadhi Sthan (Temple) is visited by millions of devotees from far and near. You'll see a large number of pilgrims here, some coming from various parts of Maharashtra,and across the India. Allegorically, Shegaon can be described as the Pandharpur of VidarbhaThousands of devotees pay their respects at the Samadhi every Thursdaywhich is regarded as a special day.

AMARAVATI

AMARA

Amravati (also known as Amrawati or Amraoti) is a town located 156 km (97 miles) west of Nagpur. It is believed to be the city of lord Indra, the king of all gods. The town is famous for various tourism sites like Shri Ambadevi Temple, Melghat Tiger Project and Chikhaldara.

The temple of Shri Ambadevi is situated in the heart of the city at Gandhi Square. During Navratra festival the place becomes alive with People from all walks of life from different parts of the state.

Melghat is an abode of wild lives which include 41 species of Mammals, 250 species of Birds, 24 species of Fish, 160 species of Reptiles and snakes and species of Lizard, amphibians etc. Now the area has been declared as a tiger reserve as it is a prime habitat for tigers. It spreads across the Satpura mountains with a dense forest of teak and bamboo. The best time to visit the place is from January to April when the park is pleasantly cool.

CHIKHALDARA

Chikhaldara is a small hill station in the district of Amravati. It is a site for basic paragliding, paramotoring and para-winching. The place is also a prime site for animal watchers and trekkers.

Patnadevi is an ancient and religious place and it gained prominence, as it is the birthplace of the great Scientist Bhaskaracharya.

Omkareshwar Mandir
Omkareshwar Mandir is one of the most famous and beautiful temples in Jalgaon City, dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated at Jai Nagar. Shivratri, Shravni Somvar, Ramnavmi, Gokulashtami are the biggest festivals celebrated in this temple.

Ecchapurti Ganesh Temple
This temple is situated at Navi Peth, near Balaji Sweet Mart in Jalgaon. On every Ganesh Chaturthi many devotees visit this temple.

Mahatma Gandhi Garden
Mahatma Gandhi Garden is a beautiful garden located near New Bus stand, having many different flowers, very big area and game instruments.

Mehrun (Park)
Mehrun is one of the oldest parks located in the centre of the city on Shirsholi road. It is a cool and nice place with number of trees, which attracts many people. Late Shri Prithvirajji Kapoor (renowned film artist) inaugurated the park. There are many types of entertainment material available in the park. Generally the people come to visit the parks on holidays or on Sundays mostly. Nowadays the trend of watching television had extended to a great extent and so the craze of people towards parks is reducing day by day.

J.K Park
J.K. Parks that was developed recently is situated near Mehrun garden. Children love to come to this park as they get what they want. Rabbits, Parrots, some types of sparrows are among the main attractions of the park. Another attraction of the place is a water pond, which is called as "Mehrun Talaav". The water of the pond is too cool and the sunset view from there is very attractive. The pond is full of water for nearly all the months of the year.

Bahinabai Park
Bahinabai Udyan is another park located in the centre of the city. It is named after Bahinabai Chaudhari, a well-known poetess of Maharashtra. There are many types of trees over here and people love to sit under the cool breeze of them in the garden.

Lonar Crater is a huge bowl (roughly 7 kms in circumference and 1.6 kms in
diameter) carved out Investigations reveal it to be around 50,000 years  old. Within the depression lies a saline lake.
was first discovered in 1823 by British officer, C J E Alexander. Lonar
Crater also finds mention in ancient scripts like the Skanda Puran, Padma  Puran Aaina-e-Akbari. During the days of emperor Akbar, Lonar also housed a salt factory.

Shegaon is a town in the Buldhana District of the State of Maharashtra in India. It is located around 550 km east of the city 
of Mumbai and 300 km west from the city of Nagpur. It is located on Mumbai-Nagpur route of the Central Railway of Indian Railways.  
It has acquired fame as a pilgrimage center because Shri Gajanan Maharaj lived there. Hindus consider Shri Gajanan Maharaj a saint with miraculous powers. The origins of Gajanan Maharaj are untraceable in history. Shri Gajanan Maharaj took "Samadhi" at Shegaon. Gajanan Maharaj Temple is built on the Samadhi of Gajanan Maharaj at Shegaon. Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan is the biggest temple trust in the Vidarbha region and is so called as "Pandharpur of Vidarbha". It attracts pilgrims from all over the area. Year 2009-2010 is centenary year of Shri Gajanan Maharaj Samadhi. Anand Sagar area is developed by Trust as Spiritual as well as entertainment center for devotees coming to Shegaon.
